Aiming to boost solar industry, Gov. Charlie Baker proposes bill raising ‘net metering’ cap

Gov. Charlie Baker on Friday proposed easing a restriction on solar energy that some renewable energy industry advocates say is blocking projects and dampening interest in the market.

The state’s solar “net metering” program enables electricity customers to receive a retail rate for excess energy from their solar panels that is exported to the electric grid, and to offset their bills.
